Stalker games receive server migration patch following GameSpy termination

GSC Game World has released a patch for Stalker, Stalker: Clear Sky and Stalker: Call of Pripyat to migrate online functionality onto their own servers following the recent termination of GameSpy's hosting services.

The patch is available to download directly from the official Stalker website and Steam users will receive the patch automatically. The update is only compatible with the latest version of each Stalker game and is required for Stalker game clients (and servers) to enable establishing connection to a new server. Game statistics are not maintained, according to the developer, and new profiles need to be created in Call of Pripyat.

GameSpy, a service that provided multiplayer functionality like leaderboards and matchmaking for more than 1,000 games, was established in 1997 and acquired by free-to-play mobile game publisher Glu Mobile in August 2012. GameSpy Technology announced in April that it would shutdown hosting services as of May 31.
