Botany and Ecology
Tree or shrub. The plant has an erect or curved trunk, often 3–15 m tall. The top is very dense, with ascending branches. The bark is gray and fissured below, reddish-yellow above. The leaves are firm, thick, 3.5–5 cm long, green, often prolonged into a needle-shaped point. The male inflorescences are oblong, dense, cylindric, the scales dentate-pectinate. The cones are solitary or in pairs. In maturity the cones are brown, violet-brown or light gray. The seeds are small, ovate, or ovate-oblong, the whitish-gray wing is 2–3 times the length of the body. The plant is found in the Caucasus mountain woods of Southwest...
